How did I get into writing?
I've always loved creative writing! I can distinctly remember it being one of my favourite topics at Primary School. Perhaps it was because you had the freedom to immerse yourself in your 'own' creativity, the next best thing to day dreaming!
However, as I progressed through secondary education, this creative element evolved as I fell into theatre and performance which meant the writing got temporarily shelved as the theatrical diva in me developed!
It wasn't until I had my two children, that my passion and enthusiasm for writing was reignited. The hours spent reading bedtime story after bedtime story to my boys, some of which were truly magical, others of which were like trawling through treacle, inspired me to put pen to paper and have a go at creating my own.
Writing brings me so much joy, being able to engulf myself in the various worlds of my characters, exploring their dimensions and allowing creativity to take me in all sorts of directions. But, the BEST part of writing books for children is reading them out loud to the children themselves, captivating their attention for that short period of time and drawing them into the little world that I have created with funny character voices. The enchantment is just wonderful and each time I get to do this I learn so much equally from their response. It is an absolute pleasure - and lots of fun too!
